The global OTT market is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 10.96% between 2024 and 2028, driven by several critical factors:
-
5G Networks: The global rollout of 5G technology is transforming the way people consume content, providing faster streaming speeds, better video quality, and the ability to support more immersive experiences like 4K and 8K streaming.
-
Localized Content: As the demand for culturally relevant content grows, global platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are heavily investing in localized productions to meet regional tastes. This is especially important in markets like Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America, where regional content drives viewer engagement.
-
Personalization Through AI: The use of AI and machine learning is revolutionizing the way OTT platforms deliver content. AI-powered algorithms provide highly personalized content recommendations, improving viewer retention and engagement.

In Latin America, mobile-first content consumption and investments in local productions are fueling rapid growth, particularly in Brazil and Mexico.
Countries with the Highest Growth Rates
Among the top-performing countries, Thailand leads with a remarkable CAGR of 17.3%, followed by Italy at 28.19%, and Turkey at 10.96%. These nations are seeing accelerated digitalization, mobile penetration, and a high demand for local content, contributing to their rapid market expansion.
OTT in Europe: Steady Yet Significant Growth
Europe’s OTT Market is Booming, too. It is expected to grow from USD 350 billion in 2024 to USD 520 billion by 2028, with a CAGR of 7.73%. Though this growth rate is slightly lower than the global average, Europe’s focus on high-quality localized content and smart device adoption is sustaining robust market activity.
Key markets like the United Kingdom, Germany, and France are driving Europe’s OTT growth. However, the region also faces unique challenges, such as the high cost of content localization, stringent regulatory requirements, and piracy concerns.
Challenges in the OTT Industry
Despite the promising growth, the OTT industry faces several challenges:
-
Piracy: Content piracy remains a major issue, particularly in regions like Europe and Asia, affecting revenues and discouraging investment.
-
Content Localization: As audiences expect more region-specific content, the cost of producing and distributing localized content can be prohibitive, especially for smaller players.
-
Regulatory Compliance: In markets such as Europe, companies must navigate complex GDPR regulations and adhere to local content requirements, which can be a significant barrier to growth.
